These two Westside Oly hikes are in-town gems, though they're both quite short so I'm combining them on the same day. Both have very little elevation change so this will be literally just a walk in the park.
Garfield Nature Trail is only about 0.35 mile long one way, so we'll hike from the Rogers St trailhead to the other trailhead and back again. We'll cross the little unnamed creek several times under a lush canopy of trees. There is on-street parking on Rogers street, at 620 Rogers St, a block or two south of the Westside Coop location, just north of Garfield Elementary. Info and map: http://olympiawa.gov/...
Then we'll pop over to Yauger Park, entering the park by turning right on Alta Ave NW off Capital Mall Dr and following the signs for Dirt Works to the arced parking area at the trailhead. This is a 0.9 mile loop through the woods that run behind the westside Safeway and abut Harrison Ave. Even a short distance into the trail, you'll forget that you're in a busy urban area. Both hikes are dog- and kid-friendly. If you'd like to do only one or the other you're welcome to leave us or join us between the two. Look for me by the white Escape Hybrid with the bumper stickers, or call my cell [masked].
