Traditions is often a concert venue, so people usually are quieter and more attentive to the music. This was a fundraiser and more of a social occasion. The music was background and people were chatting, but nearly everyone applauded the band after each tune, so people were definitely into it!

Traditions has a great sound system. It's probably the best place in Olympia to hear acoustic music at a moderate price. In concert situations, it can be as quiet as a library. Maybe that's one reason many national touring musicians visit Olympia annually to play there.

It has been my experience (over the last 10 years or so) that local musicians rarely get a chance to perform at Traditions as main acts, perhaps because of the abundance of returning, nationally known acts. Also, the current owner reserves space for fundraisers and other community events like the one I attended on April 2. As we all know, however, musicians will always outnumber gigs and venues, so keep on playin'!
